In many rural parts of Karnataka, nightfall still means total darkness. Without proper street lighting, even basic activities like walking home, attending evening classes, or accessing medical help after dark become dangerous. But change is happening—thanks to initiatives by the Kamba Foundation.
The Darkness That Held Back Dreams
For decades, lack of street lighting has been a major safety and accessibility issue in rural villages. Women felt unsafe venturing out after sunset. Students couldn’t attend tuition or evening study sessions. Emergency situations were worsened by the inability to travel safely at night.
A Ray of Hope
That’s where the Kamba Foundation stepped in. Under the leadership of Ashok Naidu, a vendor-turned-social entrepreneur, the Foundation launched a rural lighting initiative. Through partnerships with panchayats and support from donors, we’ve installed solar-powered and electric streetlights across multiple underserved villages.
The Impact
- Safety for All: Reduced risk of theft and harassment.
- Better Education: Students can attend night school and tuition.
- Empowered Women: More mobility and participation in community meetings.
- Health Access: Safe passage to health centers during emergencies.
What’s Next?
We aim to install streetlights in 100 more villages over the next 12 months. Your donation can light up someone’s life—literally.
